We acknowledge our responsibilities as a good citizen

In May 2009, our parent company launched the “IMI Way”, a code of conduct for all employees. This includes a set of values that unite and guide us

- IMI people pursue excellence & deliver results
- IMI people innovate and provide value to our customers
- IMI people act with integrity

For the second year running, our parent company, IMI plc, has been selected as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which admits only those businesses that achieve top 20% scores on demanding sustainability criteria. Each of the IMI platform businesses is instrumental in achieving this status and it is a clear demonstration of our commitment to delivering sustainability programmes.

The group focus is on four key areas:

-           health and safety
-           supporting customers’ responsible business priorities
-           supply chain risks
-           energy efficiency opportunities

In 2009, IMI plc was again included in the FTSE4Good Index. IMI signed up to the United Nations Global Compact in 2006. Maintaining our performance against these demanding standards extends through the whole supply chain. Careful attention is paid to ensuring that we and our suppliers conduct all activities in a sustainable manner.

Sustaining success

As the world’s leading supplier of drinks dispense and cooling equipment, we take our responsibilities very seriously.

We’re committed to playing our part in making the world a better place for future generations - while also helping our customers to optimise their success today.

This means working to the highest ethical standards in everything we do. It also means providing the financial stability and security that minimises risk for our customers and promotes sustainable, long-term business partnerships.

Our parent company IMI, a £2 billion engineering business listed on the London stock exchange, underpins our business strength and dependability.

But it’s also a much deeper relationship that serves to reinforce our culture.

An example of this is the IMI Way (link to download IMI Way booklet). Now a formalised set of principles, it represents the shared core values that have united and guided us through many years of success, underpinning strong, enduring and profitable relationships with our customers.

The Ethical & Responsible Business booklet sets out our responsible business commitments, and the guiding principles that we follow in earning trust and confidence, and in delivering secure and sustainable results.

Our four commitments

In a fast-moving world that throws up new challenges every day, we recognise that it isn’t always easy for brand owners and retailers to balance bottom line expectations with environmental demands.

We understand these issues - and we help our customers to resolve them.

Through our four commitments in the areas of energy efficiency, health and safety, sustainable development and ethics and compliance, we aim to minimise our impact on the environment - as well as supporting our customers in meeting their own corporate and social responsibilities.

Improving energy efficiency

We’re committed to enabling our customers to enhance their energy management, as well as optimising every aspect of the energy efficiency of our own operations.

Energy management is also at the heart of our new product development.

By looking at every element of the dispense system for example - from the motor and the piping through to the cooler, tower and installation - one of our most recent flagship products is achieving energy savings of 40%-60% in field trials.

Ensuring sustainable development

From the start of the design phase right through to end of life salvage and recyclability, we choose materials, components and manufacturing methods that have the least impact on the environment that we share.

And by putting major emphasis on providing products and services that reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint, we help our customers to realise their corporate sustainability objectives.

Enhancing health and safety

We’re committed to maintaining the highest health and safety standards at every Cornelius workplace for our people and for visitors.

We believe that having high standards in health and safety performance is inextricably linked with product and service quality performance. Our business leaders and employees consistently prove their commitment by adopting a ‘continual improvement’ approach.

We consistently invest in health and safety training to ensure that personnel at all levels of our business have the skills and knowledge to support our culture of ‘safety first’.

Reinforcing ethics and compliance

We aim to do business with others in the same way as we would like them to do business with us. The IMI Way is therefore of major importance in reinforcing the highest standards of integrity and ethical behaviour in our employees and business partners.

We will only trade with suppliers who act according to the IMI Way in relation to supply chain and procurement. We expect them to provide us with goods and services without exposing their employees or their local environment to unacceptable risks - including areas such as local legislation, the use of forced or child labour, pay and national employment laws, and health, safety and environmental laws. We manage a rigorous risk assessment and audit programme to ensure full compliance, including frequent reviews with supply partners.

Our commitment to our suppliers is equally strong. We ensure our own business practices are fair, and in line with our own code of conduct. This includes ensuring fair competition at all times, and using factual, objective information with processes that don’t discriminate against potential suppliers based on improper considerations. Cornelius people will never misrepresent themselves, the company or our products and services.
